Managing Components and Component Groups
Components are the building blocks of your status page. They represent individual services or systems that you want to track and display to your users.

What Are Components?
Components are the individual services you show on your status page. For example:
- Website
- API
- Database
- Mobile App
- Payment Gateway
- Email Service
Each component can have its own status (Operational, Degraded, Down, etc.) and can be linked to monitors for automatic status updates.
What Are Component Groups?
Component groups are optional categories to organize your components. For example:
- Infrastructure - Servers, Networks, DNS
- Core Services - Website, API, Database
- Integrations - Payment, Email, SMS
Groups help users quickly find the services they care about.
Accessing Component Management
- Go to Status Pages > Components from the left menu
- Select which status page to manage from the dropdown
- You’ll see two panels: Groups on the left, Components on the right
Creating a Component
- Click the New Component button on the right panel
- Enter a name for your component (e.g., “Website Frontend”)
- Optionally assign it to a group
- Click Save
Your new component will appear on your status page immediately.
Creating a Component Group
- Click the New Group button on the left panel
- Enter a name for your group (e.g., “Backend Services”)
- Click Save
The group is now available for assigning components.
Assigning Components to Groups
Each component has a dropdown labeled “Assign to” where you can:
- Select a group to organize the component
- Choose “Ungrouped” to leave it without a category
Ungrouped components appear in an “Other Components” section on your status page.
Reordering Components and Groups
Use the up/down arrow buttons to change the order:
- Groups - Reorder how groups appear on your status page
- Components - Change the order within each group
The order you set here is exactly how visitors will see them.
Editing Components
To rename a component:
- Click the pencil icon next to the component name
- Enter the new name
- Press Enter or click Save
Deleting Components
To remove a component:
- Click the trash icon next to the component
- Confirm the deletion
Warning: Deleting a component removes it from your status page permanently. Past incidents linked to the component will still exist.
Deleting Groups
When you delete a group:
- The group is removed
- Components in that group become ungrouped
- No data is lost
Connecting Components to Monitors
For automatic status updates, you can link components to monitors. When a monitor detects downtime:
- The linked component status changes automatically
- Your status page reflects the current state
- Subscribers can be notified
Set this up in your status page settings under the Monitors tab.
Best Practices
| Tip | Why |
|---|---|
| Use clear, simple names | Users should instantly understand what each component is |
| Group related services | Makes it easier for users to find what they need |
| Don’t over-complicate | 5-10 components is ideal for most status pages |
| Keep it updated | Remove components you no longer use |
